Climate & Weather
Korea has four distinct seasons: spring, summer (wet), fall and winter (dry). Especially, July, the season for IAVS2012, is the best time to visit Korea. You may enjoy the beautiful Korean summer. During the month of July, it is very hot and humid and the average temperature in Mokpo is 29℃ (84.2℉). It could be rain so you may prepare short and light clothes and umbrella.
Currency & Foreign Exchange

The Korean official currency is the Won (KRW). Banknotes are issued in the following denominations: KRW 1,000, KRW 5,000 KRW 10,000 and KRW 50,000; and coins in use are: KRW 10, KRW 50, KRW 100 and KRW 500. Buses and vending machines may only accept 1,000 won bills and coins.

Insurance and Liability
The Organizing Committee will not be responsible for medical expenses, accidents or losses or unexpected damage to property belonging to symposium participants, either during or as a result of the symposium or during all tours and events. Participants are strongly advised to arrange their own insurance for the health and accidents, lost luggage, and trip cancellation.
Time Difference

Korean time is nine hours ahead of Universal Coordinated Time/Greenwich Mean Time (UCT/GMT+9hours).

Electricity and Voltage

The standard voltage in Korea is 220 volts. The outlet has two round holes and is the same type used in France, Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, and many other countries. Always check the power supply before using your equipment.

Telephone Calls

For international calls, dial the international dialing code (001, 002, 008 or 00700), country code, area code, and the individual number. Domestic and international phone cards are available for sale at most convenient stores, hotels, and airports. Cell-phone Rental Services are available at Incheon International Airport. This service must be ordered in advance. Online-Reservation is possible at www.visitkorea.or.kr

Tax & Tipping

Value-added tax is levied on most goods and services at a standard rate of 10% and is included in the retail price. Tipping is not customary in Korea. In tourist hotels and at some large restaurants a 10% service charge is added to the bill.

Whenever and wherever in Korea, if foreigners encounter communicative problems in Korean, they just need to call 1588-5644(no area code is necessary), and they will be connected to one of the BBB volunteer interpreters. It does not matter where they are as it covers the whole Korea peninsular.
